Trip to New York

Went up to NY with Anders and Rueben last week for a couple days, much needed diversion from BP’s crap down here, although I found myself preoccupied with it anyway ….just hard to get those images out of my mind, there were a couple times I was set free , during Anders set on the boat with Tab, my man is on some SERIOUS fire as I am sure those that have seen him know, and at the “Broiler” George Porter Jr. show at Sullivan Hall…..Thank you both…..Actually kinda liked to heat at Sullivan Hall, reminded me of the old dripping wet days at Tips….anyway…also was on the Thom Hartmann show doing an interview about the images I took last week in Grand Isle and Venice….unbelievable response from that….As soon as I figure out how to post an MP3, I’ll put it on here for everyone to hear….I know we don’t carry his radio show down here…..Can’t wait to go back to NY with some more time…..Real nice meeting everyone up there…..to many names to remember…..

It’s officially on people, hold on cause for the next month or so we will all be in heaven on earth. I will be posting some of the shots from FQF this weekend as I can and have time. It is sooooo beautiful out on the river and I have really never seen sooo many people. They actually had to close Decatur St. all the way to Esplanade yesterday, what a beautiful thing! This show last week at Chickie Wah Wah in New Orleans with George Porter Jr, Johnny Sansone, and Anders Osborne with Leslie Blackshear Smith sitting in on a couple, was REALLY something special to see….WOW….This is a weekly show at the club featuring Anders, Johnny, and normally John Fohl, who is currently on tour with Dr. John. When John is out of town, “guests” sit in, the likes of George Porter Jr., Walter Wolfman Washington, etc…..catch one if you can…..I have attached some videos from this memorable evening….enjoy!

Anders Osborne at Blue Moon Saloon

Last night I had the pleasure of going to catch Anders Osborne with Jon Gross on sousaphone and tuba and Doug Belote on drums over at The Blue Moon Saloon and Guesthouse located in Lafayette, La., and what a nice change of pace that turned out to be. Ernie Vincent who I manage took the drive over with me and sat in with Anders on a few songs which was a pleasure to take in…….Anders put on his usual electrifying show, and him and Ernie collaborated on three songs, Ernie Vincent’s swampy blues tunes “River City People”, “Swamp Daddy’s” (of which I have a youtube video below the pics) and and off the hook version of “Red House”……If you haven’t heard of the “Blue Moon” as I hadn’t before yesterday, I would highly recommend you check their site out and if your ever in Lafayette, you now know one stop to put on the list!

If this is your first time here, glad to have you visit! Been a pretty busy last few months but have finally had some time to go through the past year, at least a little bit….Over the past few months met a ton of new folks and it has been a pleasure talking with all, so many people out there from all over truly moved by our wonderful and unique culture. There is a lot of material to see on the site, you can expand the categories or older posts tab at the bottom of this page and look around that way, along the top of this page there are several tabs to activate by clicking, the most popular being the portfolio/slideshow tab which will bring you to a page where I have posted about 15 musical slideshows of some events I have covered and shoots I have done, ENJOY! I have only had the time to put about 10% of my work on the site but you get the idea of what I do, the good news is that I have a Studio and Gallery in the Bywater at which you can have access to all of my work. Having people over to the gallery is the part of what I do that I enjoy most because ultimately we all become good friends after what was supposed to be a 20 minute visit turns into 5 hours. So don’t hesitate to give me a buzz and make an appointment, I live next door and work here so if I’m not out on a shoot, I’m generally available by appointment at anytime my schedule permits! I have an inventory of autographed limited edition prints on hand autographed by Dr. John, George Porter Jr., Kermit Ruffins, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Al “Carnival Time” Johnson, Anders Osborne, Cyril Neville, John Mooney, Uncle Lionel Batiste, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews and Juvenile and Big Sam Williams and if I don’t have them on hand I can easily arrange to have any print autographed upon request, just inquire for details….and you can be assured that the musicians are paid generously from your purchase of these special prints. As you can see what my passion is, I do have a large inventory of New Orleans scenes and Architecture which embody the same beautiful message. I also am set up for on site or in studio photo shoots and have many large corporate clients working with them in fields such as marketing, architecture and food. I also shoot occasional weddings alone, concentrating on capturing the most personal, powerful and intimate moments of such a special occasion. Anders Osborne’s American Patchwork set for release April 27th

Anders Osborne’s new cd “American Patchwork” is set for release on April 27th, just in time for Jazz Fest…and believe me…it’s some serious fire! We did a short shoot earlier this month for the cd design and I also shot the sessions at Studio in the Country back in September. These are some of the images from the shoot, a couple from Studio in the Country, and a live shot or two associated with this cd. Anders was recently signed by Bruce Iglauer, President of Alligator Records and new client of mine….. here is a short clip from the press release..”Alligator Records is proud to announce the signing of award-winning guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Anders Osborne. Osborne’s Alligator Records debut album, American Patchwork, is a moving collection of soul-baring roots rock, blues and ballads. Many of the songs on American Patchwork deal with healing and redemption, spirituality and acceptance. Often compared to Townes Van Zandt, Bruce Springsteen and Van Morrison, Osborne is an exceptional and singular talent. Great show at HOB last night……. Anders Osborne and Pepper Keenan(Down and Corrosion of Conformity) together are TRULY something real special…powerful, resonant stuff…Some dude behind me after they finished had never seen Anders before, he kept screamim, “I’ve been lookin for this for 15 years!!!” I couldn’t agree more, hopefully we see these guys playing together more in the future…..

and Mark Mullins. Of course Anders’ regular cohorts on stage, Eric Bolivar and Kirk Joseph laid down the grooves and Anders proceeded to rip through an over 2 hr set where as far as I could see, very few, maybe no one left till the show was done and were wanting more after the first encore. Juice also opened for Anders which was a “sweet” addition to the bill…….His shows have been steadily escalating in intensity over the past few months, this one being most memorable, akin to the energy created by the Neville Brothers within the walls of Tips many moons ago…..it’s been a long time since I felt that power there, quite a beautiful thing! These are some of the images I was able to take while out in the Quarter on New Years, Shamarr’s show was off the hook, huge crowd and a fantastic performance as usual! Got down to Downtown Tips a little late and unfortunately missed Cyril, but did catch a Smokin Anders set and have a few done from there, even with “harsh” lighting conditions, I was able to pull a few for your viewing, there are more just don’t have time right now, will add to it in a few days!
