Gambits Big Easy Awards April 23 2012

Here are some of the images from Gambit’s “Big Easy Awards” on 4/23/11. I was there with the band I manage,Ernie Vincent and the Top Notes, who were nominated in the category Best Rhythm and Blues 2011 along with my friends Walter Wolfman Washington and Dr. John……kinda a no lose situation…It was a real nice evening and great hanging out with friends, I wasn’t working the event but of course I had my camera on me and couldn’t resist popin off a few frames. The highlight of the evening was Walter Wolfman Washington receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from none other than presenter Irma Thomas……another classic moment was when Mac received the award for Best Rhythm and Blues 2011, proceeded to the stage to receive the award, and in classic Mac style, accepted the award and immediately said, “I’m givin this award to Walter….” and marched off the stage to present the award to Walter. Johnny Vidacovich and wife Debra MC’d the evening which was as entertaining as one would expect from Johnny V, and there was some really great music including Irma Thomas, Gal Holiday and the Honkey Tonk Revue, and a supa group including Walter, George Porter Jr., Ivan Neville, Dr. John, Ben Ellman and Johnny Vidacovich. Rebirth grabbed a couple awards, which they must be getting used too…. Super Sunday with the Mardi Gras Indians

Here are some of the images I have been able to get to from Super Sunday 2011. Had a great day cruising the route with Big Monk Boudreaux and friends and chillin out at the park afterwards. Some pretty pretty Wild Mardi Gras Indians were everywhere, what a sight to behold. Also went to St. Joseph’s Night on Monday, all I can say as “WOW”…..I make it a point to go most every year to this night time exhibition in the streets, all the pretty suits under the night light is unbelievable. I’ll post some pics from St. Joseph’s Night in a day or so….in the meantime enjoy these….jerry

After arriving home Saturday early evening from a long week up in the northeast in New York and Conn. with the Royal Southern Brotherhood, I headed over to Tipitinas that night to catch the reunion show of the Wild Magnolia Mardi Gras Indians with both Big Chief Bo Dolis and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux. Bacchus parade Sunday before Mardi Gras 2012

I was duckin beads all night while shooting, musta had a gross or more in back of me on the stairwell. All on Mardi Gras Day with Big Chief Monk Boudreaux

Another year in the books for Mardi Gras with Big Chief Monk Boudreaux with the Golden Eagle Mardi Gras Indians and friends!! Always love watchin Monk come out on Mardi Gras Day, Sooooo Pretty!!! singin “Indian Red” to the masses in front of his house. As usual we all proceeded with Monk to Second and Dryades where we met up with the multitudes of Mardi Gras Indians that had converged there all afternoon. After a couple hrs of dancin in the streets and checkin out all the pretty Big Chiefs meeting up, we started the trek back, led by Rueben a couple blocks ahead……Monk treated us to a wicked version of “Shotgun Joe” on the way back home…..We arrived back at Monks to the sweet smokey aromas in the air and feasted on Monks killer bbq! All on Mardi Gras Day as they say…..wouldn’t have it any other way! Enjoy the pix!!

Leo Nocentelli and the Iko Allstars rock Tipitinas

After a night with Papa Grows Funk, Glen David Andrews and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux last Friday, I closed the weekend Saturday night at Tipitinas with and incredible show featuring Leo Nocentelli’s “The Meters Experience” with Bill “The Buddah” Dickens on bass(he was killin it all night), Jamal Bati…ste, and CR Gruver. Opening up was the Iko Allstars with Billy Iuso, CR Gruver, Mean Willie Green and more playin a series of killer Grateful Dead tunes….they had the joint rockin when I arrived about halfway through the set. Leo’s 2 set show was stellar as usual. I always know I had a great time when I wake up the next day hearing Leo’s guitar riffs bouncing around in my head till early evening. Enjoy the Pics!! Tis the season, Papa Grows Funk and Glen David Andrews at Tipitinas

What a busy weekend for music, caught a few great shows last Friday at Tips Uptown with Papa Grows Funks and Glen David Andrews, nice double bill…….what initially caught my attention was Glen playin over at Tips…..don’t think I’ve ever seen him there and I was not disappointed. I also haven’t seen Papa Grows Funk at night in a club in a long while, living a few blocks from dba tend to keep be in the hood! I was really impressed with both shows, especially PGF, who kicked off the set with what only can be called an evil version of “Pass It”. Hung around for a few more and then headed down to Blue Nile for Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, pics to come on that show. What I do regret kinda is not staying for the 3rd set, which Glen promised at the end of his set…..I am sure it was memorable having both bands up at one, as Glen said, “This was the battle of the Monday night bands(Glen holds court at dba on Monday’s and PGF at the Maple Leaf), were gonna combine forces for set three and melt you like buttah!” I am sure it was incredible…..enjoy the pix!! Royal Southern Brotherhood debut CD on the horizon

Late last December I had the distinct pleasure of joining the Royal Southern Brotherhood, Cyril Neville, Mike Zito, Devon Allman, Yonrico Scott and Charlie Wooten, for a couple days at Dockside Studio to do cd and marketing photo shoots while the final touches were put on the bands soon to be released (May 9th) debut cd. This is a collection of images from that shoot, excluding some of the best, and of course my favorites, which will be used for the cd design and inlay booklet and marketing of the band. As soon as they are released by the label, I’ll post on my site. Regardless, I think you get the picture. Don’t have much to say about the new cd except get ready for some fiya!! Here’s a little info about the band… “Before they even hit a chord, Royal Southern Brotherhood have your attention. In the US South, where music is religion, two rock ‘n’ roll bloodlines tower above all others. In the saloon bars from Mississippi to Maryland, mere mention of the Allman and Neville Brothers casts a magic spell. Conversation falls silent. Pool balls stop rolling. Ten-gallon hats are tipped in respect and beer-bottles raised in salute. These aren’t just bands, they’re gods, and with a lineup comprising both the iconic Cyril Neville and Devon Allman, Royal Southern Brotherhood come pre-loaded with expectations. If this is your first time here, glad to have you visit! Been a pretty busy last few months but have finally had some time to go through the past year, at least a little bit….Over the past few months met a ton of new folks and it has been a pleasure talking with all, so many people out there from all over truly moved by our wonderful and unique culture. There is a lot of material to see on the site, you can expand the categories or older posts tab at the bottom of this page and look around that way, along the top of this page there are several tabs to activate by clicking, the most popular being the portfolio/slideshow tab which will bring you to a page where I have posted about 15 musical slideshows of some events I have covered and shoots I have done, ENJOY! I have only had the time to put about 10% of my work on the site but you get the idea of what I do, the good news is that I have a Studio and Gallery in the Bywater at which you can have access to all of my work. Having people over to the gallery is the part of what I do that I enjoy most because ultimately we all become good friends after what was supposed to be a 20 minute visit turns into 5 hours. So don’t hesitate to give me a buzz and make an appointment, I live next door and work here so if I’m not out on a shoot, I’m generally available by appointment at anytime my schedule permits! I have an inventory of autographed limited edition prints on hand autographed by Dr. John, George Porter Jr., Kermit Ruffins, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Al “Carnival Time” Johnson, Anders Osborne, Cyril Neville, John Mooney, Uncle Lionel Batiste, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews and Juvenile and Big Sam Williams and if I don’t have them on hand I can easily arrange to have any print autographed upon request, just inquire for details….and you can be assured that the musicians are paid generously from your purchase of these special prints. As you can see what my passion is, I do have a large inventory of New Orleans scenes and Architecture which embody the same beautiful message. I also am set up for on site or in studio photo shoots and have many large corporate clients working with them in fields such as marketing, architecture and food. I also shoot occasional weddings alone, concentrating on capturing the most personal, powerful and intimate moments of such a special occasion. Big Chief Monk Boudreaux at dba on Frenchmen Street

Well Mardi Gras is upon us and like clockwork, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux slammed a full house over at dba last Saturday with his kick ass band including Mark Adams on keys, Colin Lake on guitar, staple Joe Gelini on drums among others, also joined by his son Joseph Jr. also suited spewin out some serious fire from the stage. “Get out the way!” Mardi Gras day is right around the corner and as Cyril Neville would say, “Indians got that Fire!” Enjoy the pix….Jerry
